Trade and Finance

The people of Karachuonyo inhabit a space with great potential for widespread propserity based on the bounty from both land and sea. Among the barriers to their progress has been a sub-optimal participation in the marketing and distribution processes of their products. James Rege MP pledges himself to the improvement of the people's access to capital and increased education on opportunities for commercial activity especially taking advantage of credit facilities from financial institutions. These would include the mainstream commercial banks, and also th numerous microfinance institutions and savings and credit cooperatives in the constituency. We are in talks with co-operative bank,Equity and and kenya commercial bank.Soon we shall have one of them open up a branch at Kendu-bay.Currently micro finance is doing recruitment locally and shall be operating several satelite outlets across the constituency from a branch in Kendu-bay by July 2009,offering our people very worthy products on self help initiatives. With the reintroduction of cotton farming we are also experiencing a good responce to new co-operative movements. Jamii Bora Micro-Finance.

Education

James Rege MP was fortunate to enjoy the great advantage of education. He is determined that whatever the odds, as great a number of Karachuonyo youth and adults as possible should be able to access the life changing opportunities that a decent education system would supply. It is important that poverty, hunger or gender do not interfere with the constituency's great potential to supply Kenya with new champions in the MP's mould.

Agriculture

In an effort both at diversifying sources of food and employment in the constituency, Engineer Rege is spearheading efforts to revive the cotton sector in the Western parts of Kenya. This cash crop in the past proved so rich and reliable a source of income, that many of the constituencies greatest sons and daughters were educated on proceeds from the farming of the crop. The MP is working to ensure access to quality but affordable extension services, seed, fertiliser and most of all reliable markets.

Women

The women of Karachuonyo continue to play a crucial leading role in the social and economic development of our people. Increasingly, they are also performing a sterling role in leadership in the constituency, on the committees of the Constituency Development Fund, in local government authorities and in the provincial administration. The struggle for greater accomodation and opportunity for this great resource is a central pillar of MP Rege's platform. Currently underway are plans for partnerships with finance institutions to empower women's groups and projects.

Transport and Communication

The Karachuonyo MP is the chair of the parliamentary committee on Energy, Communications and Public Works. In this capacity he is working to transform not just Karachuonyo's but the entire country's transport and communications networks. Karachuonyo's development has been hobbled by poor road networks and a poor communication infrastructure. This website, and a series of media centres to be built around the constituency are intended to bring Karachuonyo closer to its people, both in Kenya and abroad.
